So Burnham clone, Granger, has set up Harmon as Opposition Leader. It would be interesting to see whether Granger succeeds in transforming the PNC into a Burnhamist entity or the die hards led by Volda Lawrence will succeed in throwing him out.

The People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) Government has commenced a review into the US$14.6M hydro-power deals with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) that former Finance Minister, Winston Jordan, tied Guyana to on the concluding day of the national vote recount.

That agreement was one of the many other deals the A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) coalition penned after the December 2018 vote of No-Confidence and the ruling of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ). The deals were said to be in clear violation of the Coalition’s caretaker status.
Vice President, Bharrat Jagdeo, commenting on this, told Kaieteur News that what Jordan did was “unusual and rather frankly put, irresponsible.”

Repeatedly, from the 4th March 2020 to the 2nd August 2020, Mr. David Granger and Mr. Joseph Harmon, are on public record regaling the independence of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) and forcefully avowing not to interfere with its working. However, everyone knew that despite these sanctimonious asseverations, there were elements within GECOM who were working in concert, to undermine the democratic process, presumably, carrying out the design of puppet masters pulling the strings from outside of GECOM. Unfortunately, they did not succeed. Thankfully so. For if they did, Guyana would have perished, irreversibly.

Both the local and international community have resoundingly requested a full-fledged and comprehensive investigation. The State has rightfully commenced the investigations. Naturally, those suspected as the puppet masters, are intemperately nervous. Indeed, as the investigations intensify that nervousness is escalating to paranoia. The provident fear that the investigations may be implicatory, simply adds to the morbid trepidation. This explains the reactions of Mr. Harmon et al.

Afterall, GECOM is independent. Mr. Harmon et al, have absolutely no business in interfering with one independent constitutional agency (GECOM) being investigated by another independent constitutional agency (GPF). However, this reaction by Mr. Harmon presents the platform for all to draw relevant inferences and arrive at likely conclusions, in relation to the interest that Mr. Harmon et al may have in the investigations. That Mr. Mingo’s lawyers happen to be two APNU candidates and that known APNU candidates and activists are mobilizing persons to block the road at Belladrum – all lend to the thickening of the conspiracy.

The truth is that they have no real cards left in the pack to play, so they resort to fabricating baseless allegations against the investigators that Mr. Mingo’s constitutional rights are being violated. The public would have witnessed Mr. Mingo’s lawyer in and out of Eve Leary with unusual frequency through the medium of the Press. Many have heard him speak to the Press about the engagements he has had with his client. The Guyana Police Force (GPF) issued a Public Statement denouncing allegations that the Police is not affording Mr. Mingo, access to his lawyers.

Mr. Mingo has filed two separate Habeas Corpus Applications within 48 hours of each other, a world record. The Constitutional Court of the land has rejected them both; pronouncing in each that Mr. Mingo’s detention is lawful. Every first-year law student would understand why. So should Mr. Harmon, a lawyer of over two decades standing.

However, it is the fear of Mr. Mingo’s singing that is inspiring the pandemonium. Nothing else.
